چکیده

We extend earlier work on scenario reduction by relying directly on Fortet–Mourier metrics instead of using upper bounds given in terms of mass transportation problems. The importance of Fortet–Mourier metrics for quantitative stability of twostage models is reviewed and some numerical results are also provided. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A two-stage stochastic programming model for the optimal sizing of hybrid PV/diesel/battery in hybrid electric ship system

Ships play the major role in bulk transportation and they need their special energy system. This paper proposes a stochastic programing method for optimal sizing of a hybrid ship power system with energy storage system (ESS), photovoltaic power (PV) and diesel generator. To account for uncertainties, in this study a two-stage stochastic mixed-integer non-linear programing is used to model the o...

Scenario Tree Reduction Methods Through Changing Node Values

To develop practical and efficient scenario tree reduction methods, we introduce a new methodology which allows for changing node values, and an easy-tocalculate distance function to measure the difference between two scenario trees. Based on minimizing the new distance, we first construct a primitive scenario tree reduction model which also minimizes the Wasserstein distance between the reduce...

Optimal scenario generation and reduction in stochastic programming

Scenarios are indispensable ingredients for the numerical solution of stochastic optimization problems. Earlier approaches for optimal scenario generation and reduction are based on stability arguments involving distances of probability measures. In this paper we review those ideas and suggest to make use of stability estimates based on distances containing minimal information, i.e., on data ap...

Discrepancy Distances and Scenario Reduction in Two-stage Stochastic Mixed-integer Programming

Polyhedral discrepancies are relevant for the quantitative stability of mixed-integer two-stage and chance constrained stochastic programs. We study the problem of optimal scenario reduction for a discrete probability distribution with respect to certain polyhedral discrepancies and develop algorithms for determining the optimally reduced distribution approximately. Encouraging numerical experi...

Scenario tree reduction for multistage stochastic programs

A framework for the reduction of scenario trees as inputs of (linear) multistage stochastic programs is provided such that optimal values and approximate solution sets remain close to each other. The argument is based on upper bounds of the Lr -distance and the filtration distance, and on quantitative stability results for multistage stochastic programs. The important difference from scenario r...
